Microsoft Home : SBS Intro : Details : Cost
Do I really need all
of this? And if I do, how much will it cost me?
It seems awfully capable and maybe even like more than you
really need, right? Well, there are certainly other options for simple file and
printer sharing. If you want to discuss them, please call us.
We won't push an SBS solution on you. By all means,
we realize that one shoe most certainly does not fit all.
However, if you're thinking about sharing resources like
modems and faxes, message routing within the company, providing email within the company
as well as access to the Internet, plus security, you might want to go the extra step.
Then you will find that you can grow into the other
options like centralized database applications, Intranets and web page design (not
necessarily even for publishing on the Internet, but for internal use), plus other
Office-related automation.
What's next?
If you think you want to explore this further, please call
us or drop us an email. We'll discuss things like your short-term and long-term
goals, how many users will be using the network, what hardware you already have and what
hardware you'll need, as well as get information on any existing applications being used
at your facility. Then we'll take the next step of visiting your site, speaking with
key personnel to further develop an understanding of both your needs and wants.
After that we'll provide a proposal. If you accept our proposal well, that's when
the fun begins!
Wait! You didn't talk about price!
You're right. Here is some basic cost information as of
June 1999.

Additional client licenses can be purchased in quantities of 5 for $299.00 or 20 for
$999.00. There are also other licensing options.
Please note that the licensing is for simultaneous use. This means you can have
20 employees with system accounts and so long as only 5 of them are on at the same time,
you won't need additional licenses.
There are also hardware vendors available who bundle the software in, so you might get
a substantial break on SBS costs.
Server costs will vary depending upon the configuration necessary to meet your needs as
well as any existing hardware which can be put to use. This can vary from $0 to
$7000 or more.
Infrastructure and other hardware needs - each PC will require an appropriately
licensed Windows product (Windows 95/98 or NT and we can probably work in a 3.11 client if
necessary.) Each PC will require an Ethernet adapter. Network cabling must be
provided to each workstation.
Consulting costs will vary depending upon the amount of involvement you wish us to have
in your project. Countract discounts are available for ongoing support.
It sounds like a lot. But, it can be taken in chunks. And we'll do our best
to make use of existing hardware.
